PCAD 100 - Work Based Learning
Three Companies
For this task we had to pick three companies that we would love to work for. Then we must research and present our findings to our peers. We must research company history, game development, etc.
We also had to pick a job role that we see ourselves doing, 2D concept artist, 3D environment artist or character artist. I picked 3D environment artist because I really have enjoyed making environments, such as; Cities, Streets, Castles and other stuff.
The three companies that I have picked are:
Pixar
Ubisoft
Bethesda
Even though Pixar is not a gaming company and is more of an animation studios instead, I picked them because they were a big influence on my interest into 3D design, with films like Toy Story, Cars and Wall-E.

The job requirements to work at Pixar as a 3D environment artist
- Must have professional experience in CG animation production for television, film, visual effects or games.
- Must have experience with a high-end 3D modeling and animation system (such as Maya, Modo, XSI, Houdini or 3D Studio Max). Skill and experience in the use of subdivision surfaces is highly desirable.
- Must have a good understanding of 3D computer graphics theory and practice.
- Must have good understanding of shape, composition and architectural design.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure.
- Must be open to direction and able to embrace change. In addition to these required qualifications, any of the following attributes will be considered a plus:
- Degree in architecture, art, computer science, or engineering.
- Ability to program in a scripting language such as Mel or Python. •Skill in drawing, sketching, or sculpting.

The job requirements to work at Ubisoft as a 3D environment artist are;
- Enthusiasm and desire to work in the game development industry;
- Ability and desire to work in creative and collaborative teams;
- Ability to write clear, concise documentation in English;
- Proficiency in basic software such as word processing, spreadsheets, etc.;
- Excellent knowledge of level editing tools and scripting languages such as LUA;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in level design & at least 2 shipped titles;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Excellent knowledge and strong experience of computer and video games;
- Ability to manage his/her own time and work within tight deadlines;
- Proficiency in English;
I picked Bethesda because I have really enjoyed their games and believe that it would be a great experience to work there and provide my skills for them.
The job requirements to work at Bethesda as a 3D environment artist are;
- 5+ years' experience modeling 3D objects and generating textures
- Deep knowledge of Maya, Photoshop and other asset creation tools (ZBrush highly recommended)
- Exceptional texture creation ability; hand-painted textures is a plus
- Good analytic eye for volumes, shapes, proportions, detail distribution, color and materials composition
- Able to work from photo reference or concept art when available, as well as ability to provide their own
- Able to work within poly and texture budgets
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)
